** Graphic Display of loose skin around my stomach near the end — Viewers may want to ensure a bag is available ** Today’s episode I deal with the one of the most common questions people ask me after hearing of my 200 pound weight loss. That is, “do you have much problems with loose skin?” In the end, I have to admit that I do have a bit of loose skin (I affectionately & sometime not so affectionately my “SharPei”) around my torso and legs, but it could be much worse. I could have the …

It honestly doesn’t look much different than in 2006. If you watch my P90x video I post shots in the tail end of those videos. I might link to some photos in the side bar, but if there’s not much difference (at least I can’t tell the difference) I not sure there’s a point.

  3. bowulf on November 17th, 2009 7:00 pm

Thank you! It is possible, and it may take 6-12 months as they didn’t often appear over night. It takes awhile for them to fade.

As long as you lose without doing ultra-low calorie, which will cause the body to start cannibalizing itself and damage the skin. The stretch marks are just signs that skin was damaged as it was forced to over-stretch itself. They can fade and even disappear as the body repairs itself.

What courage it must have taken to show your tummy….all for the sake of helping others.

It depends on how much weight to lose, and where you attempting to see the physical results. The scale? Usually within a day or two. The tape measure? Within in a week or two… Visually on the body – varies per person – some people notice their face slimming almost immediately…

hey bowulf, i just started the atkins diet, i was wondering if you could tell me how soon would i start to see physical results? does it take two weeks for it to go into full gear???

The diet was fantastic. It changed my life and gave me energy to do things I never thought I could before — like run marathons. I agree with you it is a lifestyle change. When I talk about a diet, it is more like just how one eats for a lifetime. While Induction only needs to last 14 days, Atkins is a lifelong experience.

Wow great results !!! I would rather be at your state with loose skin than to be extremely overweight. Myself, I’m 5′11, 265LBs right now so I wont have the skin issue soo much but my doctor did recommend the Atkins Diet which is how I ran across your video.. In your experience how was the diet for you ? I try to see eating healthy not as a temporary change and I hate the word “diet” I like to think of it as a lifestyle change.. Any input would be much appreciated.. again Good work !!!

The answer is you are allowed 3 daily sweetener servings per day – a serving is defined as any serving of food like a can of soda. Check out my daily sweetener limit video for more information on why there is a limit even if it is zero carb.

Wow! Truly amazing bowulf!! I’m going to start the induction phase today and wanted to know how many diet cokes I can have a day to be safe. It says zero net carbs but it has artificial sweetener (not sure how many servings of a.s. are in it tho.). Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I was going to ask the exact same question! I’ll report back in a year and tell you how my skin is looking. I don’t have stretch marks so I’m hopefull.

If he was so inclined, he could get some work done to fix it, but I dont see why he would need to,I think he looks fantastic, and what really matters is he feels good!!

It depends on how damaged the skin is. If you are less than 100 pounds, you certainly can tighten it up with simply the diet and exercise. 211 pounds as in my case can indeed damage the skin beyond repair, but that is my extreme case.

  17. alkiller1992 on November 17th, 2009 7:00 pm

Gym! while doing the diet will fix it

  18. GabriKnight on November 17th, 2009 7:00 pm

A foot off your thighs. Truly amazing!

I’m jealous about your lack of double chin though. Some guys like me put on just a little weight and then when it comes off they look like a thin face in saggy head, lol. Your face looks like you’ve always been your current weight.

  19. bowulf on November 17th, 2009 7:00 pm

    Funny…

I am so not vain enough to ever get facelift or botox. As for how I look now, my face didn’t shrink 24 inches like my waist did or >12 inches like my thighs did. That said I did shrink 5/8″ in my hat size, so I guess Atkins is indeed good for a fat head or big ego.

  20. GabriKnight on November 17th, 2009 7:00 pm

Wow! No way could you have loose skin like that but no double chin at all. C’mon – fess up. Facelift? Botox? I’m 33 and have never weighed more than 13 stone, but have a double chin I can’t get rid of with any diet!

  21. bowulf on November 17th, 2009 7:00 pm

It’s still there — perhaps a bit less than this video, but not by much.

The places I notice it most is my stomach and thighs. but both have dropped by over 60% (58″ to 34-36″. Part of my says it or any damaged skin was inevitable.

Just like a broken bone is never the same, it can actually be stronger. I think I am stronger for the damage as it remains a reminder for what might be. Getting discouraged about it only feeds needless self-criticism, which often leads to return to former self.

You sure are right about age and loose skin. I completely agree and say it often, I would much rather have a bit of loose skin that the fat to fill it out.
I have lost 100 pounds and thankfully don’t have much loose skin. I am really surprised and happy about that. When I look at my fat pictures I can see layers of fat on my neck, it is now gone. Wow.
You have been thin for a long time I see. Congratulations. How is the skin now?

Hats off to you for coming on the camera and let us see this…brave indeed, and thank you for encouraging words. I lost 115lbs a couple of years ago and have loose skin…needless to say that I didn’t do all you can to get rid of it. I got into weight training which amazingly helped with the loose skin around neck and arms. The idea of surgery hits from time to time but I keep telling myself that I will live with it and get rid of it (naturally), sooner or later. Good luck to you.

  24. bowulf on November 17th, 2009 7:00 pm

The beach ready body is a state of mind. I think your body can indeed shrink and look better over time. If you tone where you can and let good nutrition do the rest, your skin can return to where it had been and the stretchmarks if any certainly fade or disappear.

Alright fine welcome to my block file… I tried to be cordial, but apparently you lost the ability to converse like an adult. I can’t abide any put downs to others, so have a nice life and again I hope you never have to regret calling anyone else a “fatty.”
